deep cuts for february

hi folks,

in keeping with my hot streak of 1 year posting a youtube playlist,  here is one for the feb-grind. this one is curated by yo, moi, ya boi benj. See below for a read-along of all the tracks. hope they move you.

all my love,
b

John Fahey- On the Sunny Side of the Ocean
Fahey slays always.

Kamasi Washington-Claire de Lune
Kamasi pulls this off with the deepest of grooves.

Jerry Garcia Band- Moonlight Mile
Never seen Jerry sing and play so well at the same time. apologies to mick and keith.

Mark Kozelek- Onward
Kozelek (of Sun Kil Moon, Red House Painters) strips away the prog-goop of the Yes original.

David Bowie- Sound and Vision 2013
They re-mixed  this Bowie classic for a Samsung commercial. fuck. if only all product shilling could produce tracks of this caliber… RIP, Dovid.

Galaxie 500- Don't Let Our Youth Go To Waste
Heed the words, roll the head to the jams. Love to J. Richman.

Beethoven- Cavatina
NASA put a recording of this on a spaceship that is now in the far reaches of our solar system for the aliens that will definitely want to listen. duh.

Sibelius- Symphony Number 5
Say what you will about Finland (what would you say?), the idee fixe of Sibelius's 5th is nothing but goosebumps....or swanbumps.... Comes in around the 1:15 mark.

Joao Giilberto- Undiu
Headphones a must. A masterful recording delivered so delicately that you'll enjoy the mouth sounds/tongue flips of dear Joao.

Earl Sweatshirt- Mantra
SWEAT. SHIRT.

Dylan- Jokerman Live on Letterman
This scuzzed-out take on the Infidels slammer is dynamite. Dylan realizes halfway through the song that he's got the wrong harmonica. With steel-faced Dylany aplomb he goes off-stage, grabs the right one and licks out the jam.

Caetano Veloso- You Don't Know Me
A song written while Caetano was in exile from his native land. Saudade da Bahia.

Galaxie 500- Fourth of July
dropped in 1990 and still  so fresh. smell the sparklers?

Alice Coltrane and Joe Henderson- Earth
earth journey. time. time.

Pharoah Sanders-Soledad
When the sax kicks in and plays on the harmonium feels like we're getting somewhere.

Robbie Basho-Rocky Mountain
yawp, robbie, yawp.

Pharoah Sanders-Healing Song (live)
May we all be so healed.
